ParcelHero’s international courier partner DHL Express is leaving its former headquarters at Orbital Park, Heathrow, to move into new state of the art HQ at Poyle, near Colnbrook in Berkshire. The relocation means DHL can increase its parcel handling capacity from 6,000 items per hour to 28,000.
Timed to be fully open just ahead of the traditional Christmas peak period, the 150,000ft2 building on the Poyle Trading Estate, completed this week, will increase capacity and reduce sorting times. The £32m project is expected to result in a boost for DHL Express customers, as the new cross-dock facility is designed around the DHL parcel sorting machinery speeds; enabling swifter sorting times.
It also brings together DHL’s distribution centre, service centre and head office in one purpose built facility; and takes some operations away from the congested Heathrow hub area.
The new Headquarters is part of a major £156m investment by DHL, which also includes improvements to DHL’s hubs at East Midlands and Manchester.
It is also greener than the previous HQ thanks to photo-voltaic panels and air source heat pumps. In fact, CO2 emissions are expected to be 40% lower than building regulations demand.
