ParcelHero delivery partners DPD are set to make a major improvement in how customers receive their items. DPD CEO Dwain McDonald told the Delivery Conference in London last week that it plans to introduce a new App that will let customers choose when they want their parcels delivered.
In his speech – A Glimpse into the Future – Dwain revealed that the new service, called DPD Precise, will build on the existing DPD Predict model that tells customers their one-hour delivery window and gives a 15 minute window as it nears their location. DPD Precise would let the customer decide exactly when they wish their delivery to take place – sending instructions directly to the driver.
It’s a radical approach to deliveries that presents a number of challenges: what happens if everyone chooses certain times at the weekend? Will there be enough storage space to hold items?
The new App will also perform a number of other innovative functions. It will enable customers to rate their delivery and also inform drivers when customers are back at home to attempt a second delivery, if they were out when it was first scheduled. This will avoid customers having to travel to collection points or re-arrange deliveries for another day.
There’s no precise date for the arrival of DPD Precise; but it could be as early as this summer.
