In a bid to counter Google search penalties, the online auction giant has re-introduced product reviews on eBay listed items to help improve user confidence when purchasing online.
The reviews will be enabled on the UK site this week, allowing users to rate products 1-5 stars. Buyers will be encouraged by eBay to rate the products after buying them, with average star-ratings being displayed on identical products across the site.
Some merchants are concerned the reviews will be unfairly shared between merchants, but eBay have enacted a complaints procedure for merchants if they deem it unfair. Product reviews did exist on eBay over a decade ago, but were eventually scrapped. Now, due to search engines like Google pushing reviews as a major aspect of online shopping, eBay are re-introducing them.
