Shipping Clothes: How to Send Clothing

Clothes are one of the most common items found in the back of a courier’s van. From vintage stores found on eBay to high street fashion brands, sellers sending clothing from A to B rely solely on courier services. If you have some clothes that you need to ship, then you are in the right place. At ParcelHero, we know our packages and this guide will teach you everything you need to know about shipping clothes.

Packaging Time: 5 Minutes

Packaging Materials

Most clothes that are shipped are sent in a simple plastic envelope called a poly mailer. They are inexpensive and practical as the clothes simply slide in and they can be fastened with ease. If you are shipping clothes that you have sold, then it is important to pack the clothes well. If someone’s first impressions of their new purchase is a crumpled mess, then they maybe instantly disheartened.

Step 1: To begin with, clear a large enough space to efficiently fold your clothes. Some people choose to roll items of clothing up, we don’t advise this as your clothes can come out looking crumpled. So be sure to neatly fold your clothes. There are plenty of guides explaining how best to fold specific items of clothing, so be sure to find do you research if you are unsure.

Step 2: Once your clothes have been folded, choose an extra layer of wrapping such as bubble wrap. This ensures that your clothes are not water damaged during transit. Any extra padding that you can place into your parcel will help prevent damage and costs very little as bubble wrap and packaging paper will not tip your weight balance over the limit

Step 3: Now your clothes are neatly wrapped, you should place them in your chosen package. Unless you are shipping more than one item of clothing or a large item such as a coat, use a poly mailer. Otherwise a cardboard box will suffice.

Step 4: One mistake that many people make is to attach the shipping labels after inserting their clothes. This does not work as the clothes plump up the packaging and can leave the label close to peeling off. Always attach your labels before sealing the clothes inside their envelope, mailing bag or coat.

Tip: Whatever envelope or box you use to ship your clothes, using an excess of tape can save your clothing from disappearing. Packaging can get ripped and torn in a busy depot, so never spare the tape.

Sending Your Clothes

When your clothing is ready to be shipped, decide how you want it to be collected. Generally, you have two options. You can choose to have your items collected and delivered by courier; alternatively, you can drop off the package(s) at your local drop off center and the courier will pick your package up from there. Luckily, ParcelHero offer you these options plus further choices to ensure that you have the delivery experience that you want.
