After booking your bike delivery, the most important thing to do is ensure your bike is packaged correctly for safe, secure delivery. Bikes are essentially relatively robust constructs but with sensitive elements so if you want to avoid any possibility of even the slightest mishap in transit, it definitely pays to check our labelling and packaging guidelines.

Especially for an international bike delivery, the package will be handled multiple times, go through various sortation depots before reaching its final destination. If you are selling the bike, you definitely don't want it to arrive impaired, if you are a cyclist sending your racer or mountain bike ahead for a cycling tour, you want to be ready to hit the road as soon as possible. Packing a bicycle for shipping requires a bit of time and a few basic tools, but is worth the effort. The basic principles for any package are:

1. Use a strong, rigid box. Dedicated bike packaging is available to buy but if you are reusing a box, perhaps the one your new bike arrived in, make sure it hasn't been too damaged on first use. The more dents and creases, the weaker the protection.
2. Remove elements like accessories, pedals, lights etc, remove the front wheel and the handlebar headset. Wrap these separately and remove any batteries. This is all designed to allow the bike to fit into a conventional box efficiently.
3. Once you have insulated the bike, or parts of (this can be done with foam protection, packaging chips), when it is placed within the box so it does not touch the outer walls – think of it as needing to be suspended within the box.
4. If you are using a second-hand box, carefully remove old labels and barcodes.
5. Use strong packaging tape to seal the box, paying extra attention to the flaps, seams and corners
6. Attach your labels and any relevant customs documentation and place duplicates within the box
