About DHL courier services
DHL is one of the world's leading logistics providers, known for reliable delivery and a strong international network. It offers same-day collection and fast express services to the USA, EU and Far East, and can carry personal effects that many carriers will not, including clothing, shoes, electronics and even passports. DHL also accepts heavy freight up to 1,000kg worldwide, making it a dependable choice for both everyday parcels and larger consignments.
At a glance
Sending options
Most DHL services ask you to print your own labels, no-printer services are also available if you are not set up for labels.
For several destinations DHL submits the customs invoices electronically, so you do not need to. Collection and drop-off options give flexibility on how you send.
Collection & delivery
DHL collections and deliveries run on working days between 9am and 6pm, with same-day collection available. If the receiver is not home, DHL will normally deliver to a safe place, such as a porch or a neighbour.

Size & weight limits
Send heavy and bulky items with DHL up to 1,000kg to worldwide destinations, and up to 300kg in the EU. Surcharges apply to items over 70kg in weight or 120cm in length, so enter accurate dimensions to avoid extra charges when DHL audits your shipment.

DHL delivery services
DHL USA express delivery. DHL delivers in 2 days across most of the US East Coast, including New York and New Jersey, and in 3 days across most of the USA, combining fast transit with strong value.

DHL document delivery. Documents are quicker and lower cost to send than packages, because they are not subject to customs clearance or import duty. That means faster delivery for letters and paperwork to international destinations.
DHL large parcel and pallet delivery. The DHL freight service accepts pallets up to 300kg to the EU and up to 1,000kg for worldwide destinations. Collections are booked one day in advance so a suitable vehicle is sent.

About DHL customs, prices & surcharges
About DHL customs clearance
If the recipient has to pay import duty, DHL charges a disbursement fee for paying those charges to customs and processing payment from the receiver.
The fee varies by country. In the UK it is currently £11 or 2.5% of the total duty and VAT payable, whichever is greater.
DHL prices and surcharges
Your quoted DHL price includes all applicable surcharges, so to reduce surprises at checkout. DHL applies surcharges to items over 70kg in weight or 120cm in length, so if your item is close to either limit, enter accurate measurements to avoid additional charges when DHL audits the shipment.

DHL prohibited items
Unlike some carriers, DHL can ship personal effects, including clothing, shoes, electronics and even passports. Many items still cannot be sent, and some are less obvious, such as food to the EU, power banks and cash. Always check the prohibited list before shipping to avoid your package being returned, and check with the local customs authority if you are sending anything unusual.
Top 5 items prohibited by DHL:
• Perfume
• Batteries
• Aerosols
• Flammable liquids
• Animal skins (non-domesticated)

Why choose DHL
If your shipment falls within DHL's size, weight and commodity rules, it is a dependable, well-priced choice, and it clears customs on your behalf. It is particularly worth choosing when you are sending internationally at speed, moving personal effects other carriers refuse, or shipping heavy freight.
